The £8560 grant was awarded by the National Lottery's Awards for All scheme. It will help fund the charity's PED program, which is run in partnership with the NHS and mitochondrial clinics in London, Oxford and Newcastle.
PEDs provide people affected by mitochondrial disease with a much-needed opportunity to meet in a 'safe space', where they can share their experiences and talk with specialist doctors and clinicians. Feedback from the meetings is used to guide the further development of services for mitochondrial patients.
It is hoped the additional funding will allow The Lily Foundation to further extend the programme, which has so far proved popular with patients, their families, carers and clinicians.
