Patrons

Our celebrity supporters

We’re grateful to have several high-profile supporters who help shine a spotlight on The Lily Foundation. These generous individuals dedicate their time to attending events like our annual Gala Ball and Comedy Night, using their platforms to raise essential funds and increase public awareness.

Through media appearances and social media outreach, they play a key role in supporting our mission and bringing attention to mitochondrial disease.

He’s been involved with The Lily Foundation for several years, hosting our Lily Ball and taking part in events including Lily Family Weekend. A passionate supporter of our charity’s cause, Josh says:

“I am proud to be able to help The Lily Foundation in any way I can. It is an inspiring organisation that offers help, information and support to families who are affected by this rare disease. The charity has achieved so much in its short history, and continues to grow and achieve things that felt distant 10 years ago.”

Lucy Speed

Patron

An actor best known for her TV roles in Eastenders and The Bill, Lucy went to school with The Lily Foundation’s founder, Liz, and has been an active supporter of the charity since its launch in 2007. Lucy says:

“Lily’s death affected us all profoundly, and the lack of support for Liz and her family was stark. From this huge loss The Lily Foundation was born. It has achieved so much – supporting families, helping to fund medical breakthroughs, and advancing our knowledge about mitochondrial disease. I have got to know many of our Lily families and am entirely invested in their fight. I couldn’t be more proud to be a patron of a charity with so much heart and courage.”

Prof Sir Doug Turnbull

Patron

Sir Doug is a doctor and scientist who spent nearly 40 years looking after patients with mitochondrial disease. He has worked closely with The Lily Foundation since it started and is a great supporter of the charity.

“The Lily Foundation is a wonderful organisation run by talented and compassionate people. It is a tireless campaigner to improve care for all those patients with mitochondrial disease and provides tremendous support for families. The Lily Foundation supports the very best science to find cures for mitochondrial disease. It played an absolutely crucial role in changing the law to allow Mitochondrial Donation to prevent the transmission of some mitochondrial diseases. It is a charity that really has changed the lives of those affected by mitochondrial disease.”

Jonathan Pearce

Patron

A football commentator on the BBC’s Match of the Day, Jonathan is also Lily’s uncle, Founding President and former Chairman of The Lily Foundation.

“In August 2007, just three months after Lily died, Liz and I sat on the beach and talked about our vision of setting up a charity. A charity to fund research and support families... now look at us. I’m unbelievably proud of what we have achieved and so proud be a part of this growing charity.”
